If you haven’t watched An Inconvenient Truth yet, do so. Forget about the politics for a minute and watch the science and then call your local energy provider and tell them you want “green” energy. Our provider charges us 2½ cents per kwh to purchase green energy on my behalf, but I consider it an investment in our planet’s future.
Also, don’t be fooled by the term “hybrid” when you look at some vehicles. General Motors has two pickup trucks out in the “hybrid” manufacture and they don’t get any better mileage than the non-hybrid types. They get an extremely anemic mileage of less than 20 mpg. The SUVs are getting close to 30 combined, while the cars get between 30 and 55, depending on the model. Sure, hybrid vehicles are expensive right now but the cost savings in gas alone will allow that excess cost to be justified. Our local dealer’s representative told us that a hybrid vehicle is only cost-effective over a period of five years, if all you are looking for is gas savings.
While both of our vehicles are relatively new (2003’s), we are both adamant about our next vehicles being a hybrid style. Hey, with gas hovering at $3 a gallon, it’s a good incentive.
In an example of American greed, here’s a sitting judge who sued a laundry for SIXTY FIVE MILLION DOLLARS because his favorite pair of pants was lost…for a short while. In the video, someone raises the question of judicial temperament if the guy can go this nuts over a pair of pants. I’d have to wonder, myself.
In my mind, this is no less frivolous than the prisoner out in California that sued (and won) for the right to have PEANUT BUTTER.
If John McCain moves any further to the right, he’ll be in bed with Jerry Falwell. And I actually thought this Republican had a little class.
Is it just me, or does Dubya’s “Hey Al(berto Gonzalez), you’re doing a great job,” have the same tenor as “Brownie, you did a great job” after the Hurricane Katrina disaster? Makes you wonder what the guy considers a bad job, doesn’t it?
Be careful what you say about the Pope. You might be considered a terrorist if you criticize him.
It sure seems like racism and brutality are the key descriptors of the LA Police these days, doesn’t it? It would seem to me that the mere presence of police dressed in riot gear would provoke some sort of resentment — why not just be dressed in uniform? Then, when the trouble started, these thugs just used the entire incident as an excuse to brutalize anyone that was in their path. Watch this video for some footage of just that.
Lisa’s going to PA this weekend to visit her grandmother, maybe for the last time. I may or may not go with her.
