Basic information

On July 20, 2005 Canada, as a nation, embraced same-sex marriages.  Prior to that, individual provinces began marrying same-sex couples — notably, Ontario.  With this new legislation, Canada became the fourth country to allow same-sex marriages, following Belgium, Spain and The Netherlands.

Unlike the other three countries, there are NO residency requirements in order to get married in Canada.  While the bulk of these articles will address Ontario (the Province most likely to be visited by Western New Yorkers), we will attempt to provide as much information on the country, as a whole, as we can find.

For general information on individual provinces, click on the province name.
